Satyajit Ray was an Indian film director and screenwriter. He was born in Calcutta, Bengal Presidency, British India on 2nd May 1921 and died in Kolkata, West Bengal, India on 23rd April 1992, aged 70.

His best films as a screenwriter include Aparajito (1956), Devi (1960) and Pratidwandi (1971), and whose best work as a film director include Pather Panchali (1955), The Chess Players (1977) and Agantuk (1991).

Satyajit Ray scripted 16 films, directed 13 films and supplied the music for 12 films.
