Drama
aka: Family Tree
Film Synopsis
For almost six decades, Frédérick has been harbouring a dark
secret which is known only to himself, his wife and his son Charles.
After the latter's premature death, Frédérick's family are
surprised not to see him at the funeral. Suspecting their may be a
good reason for his absence, his other son and his granddaughter pay a visit
on him and try to coax an explanation out of him. The reclusive old
man is reluctant to speak at first. For years he has wrestled with
his secret, resolved that no one else shall find it out. His relationship
with Charles had always been a stormy one, and that was no doubt because
he knew what he should not have known. Now Frédérick
faces a terrible dilemma. Has the time come for him to confess the
terrible secret that long weighed on his heart - or should he keep quiet
and let the truth he dare not disclose die with him? Surely there are
some secrets that should never be divulged...?

The brighter side of Franz Kafka
In his letters to his friends and family, Franz Kafka gives us a rich self-portrait that is surprisingly upbeat, nor the angst-ridden soul we might expect.
A wave of fresh talent in the late 1950s, early 1960s brought about a dramatic renaissance in French cinema, placing the auteur at the core of France's 7th art.
It was American film noir and pulp fiction that kick-started the craze for thrillers in 1950s France and made it one of the most popular and enduring genres.
