La Famille Pont-Biquet (1935)
Directed by Christian-Jaque

Comedy

Film Synopsis

The Pont-Biquets are not the most conventional of families, but then what is a conventional family supposed to look like?  First there is the father, a magistrate who is stricken deaf for several hours after he is requested to perform his marital duties by his demanding wife.  The mother is the proverbial shrew.  Authoritarian and always in the foulest of tempers, she makes life unbearable for anyone who is unfortunate enough to cross her path without body armour.  Then there is the son-in-law, a carefree imbecile who is has a naturally cheerful disposition, whatever the circumstances.  Finally, there is the dewy-eyed ingénue, who has yet to discover that her darling lover has a mistress.  No, the Pont-Biquets are definitely not everyone's idea of the average middleclass family, and life with them is far from dull...
