Coraline, faithful servant to the Ottavio family in Verona, chooses to
follow her employer's son, Florindo, when he is expelled from the
family home by his father, having been manipulated by his
fortune-hunting second wife Beatrice. Coraline is a kind-hearted
woman who succeeds in allowing her young master to marry the woman he
loves. She also manages to thwart the treacherous Beatrice and
reconcile Ottavio with his son.
In his letters to his friends and family, Franz Kafka gives us a rich self-portrait that is surprisingly upbeat, nor the angst-ridden soul we might expect.
