Film Synopsis

After spending several years in the north of England, Lenz returns to Paris where he learns that his mother, Madeleiene, has mysteriously disappeared.  Forgetting his own personal problems, he immediately sets out to look for her, with the help of his friend Louis.  Meanwhile, Hélène, a young woman of German origin, is still struggling to come to terms with the death of her child.  Despite the support of her attentive husband Paul, she becomes increasingly distant, although thankfully her work as a nurse prevents her from dwelling on her tragedy.  The paths of Lenz and Hélène intersect in the Paris Métro when the former steals the latter's purse.  They next meet at the hospital where Hélène works.  It is the beginning of an all-consuming love affair...
