Toni, a small-time crook, still hasn't come to terms with the loss of his
beloved wife. Now he leads a pretty miserable existence, despite the
comfort his darling six-year-old daughter Max brings him in abundance.
With Christmas approaching, Toni sinks deeper into depression and wonders
if he is ever going to regain his zest for living. His low spirits
have not gone unnoticed by his daughter, who decides to cheer him up by offering
him a very special present.
Thinking that a replacement wife is just what her unhappy daddy needs, Max
goes out and engages the services of an attractive young prostitute named
Rose whom she meets by chance in the street. Toni is somewhat taken
aback by this unusual gift but, keen not to appear ungrateful, he welcomes
the unfamiliar young woman into his home. Good intentions have a habit
of going somewhat awry, and on this occasion Max's gesture of good will turns
out to have some very unexpected consequences...
