Film Synopsis
Stefan Brückner, a young German maths graduate, is hitchhiking his
way to Paris. In an arcade, he meets a petty criminal named
Charlie who befriends him and takes him to a party where he meets
Estelle Miller, an attractive American. Ignoring his friend's
advice to stay away from Estelle, Stefan cannot help falling in love
with her. Not long after, the young woman leaves Paris and heads
for Ibiza. Stefan wastes no time going after her but she
evidently has no desire to renew their acquaintance. Stefan
discovers that Estelle is presently staying at a hotel belonging to Dr
Ernesto Wolf, a German who is implicated in some shady business
deals. Stefan persuades Estelle to come away and live with him in
a remote coastal house. Before she goes, Estelle steals a large
pack of heroin from Wolf. When he learns that Estelle has been
taking drugs Stefan is surprised but takes a dose himself. One
thing leads to another and in no time they have both become hooked on
the drug. As the two young people follow a course of
detoxification their relationshp gradually deteriorates as each
succumbs to his own private Hell. When Charlie next sees him,
Stefan is a wreck of his former self. Yet Stefan cannot bring
himself to leave Estelle...
