Film Synopsis

In the summer of 1940, not long after France has capitulated to Nazi Germany, a young Senegalese infantryman named Addi Ba is captured and taken to a prisonor-of-war camp.  Addi Ba manages to escape from the camp and hides out in the Vosges, cautiously seeking help from the locals in this rural area of France.  Christine, a schoolmistress, kindly tends to his wounds and places him in the care of a farmer, who provides him with a safe place to hide.  It turns out that this farmer belongs to a newly founded resistance group and invites Addi Ba to join the group, which intends fighting to liberate France from the Nazis.  Addi Ba is more than willing to lend his support and before long he is placed in command of the group.  This leads to some unwelcome ructions as some of his fellow résistants are unwilling to trust him on account of his skin colour.  One evening, Addi Ba kills a German soldier, provoking the occupying Nazis into carrying out a fierce wave of reprisals in a determined bid to crush the local resistance...
