Raoul Maury is a police inspector who has become sidelined by his
superiors after an all-too zealous investigation into certain
influential politicians. He has a chance to redeem himself when
he is contacted by Donetti, a member of an infamous gang of mercenaries
run by Commandant Capra. Donetti realises that Maury could be a
useful ally, but Maury's superiors also see an ideal chance to
infiltrate the gang. Their plan is to eliminate Capra before he
can carry out his threat to reveal the criminal activities of several
prominent politicians...

The very best of German cinema
German cinema was at its most inspired in the 1920s, strongly influenced by the expressionist movement, but it enjoyed a renaissance in the 1970s.
In the 1940s, the shadowy, skewed visual style of 1920s German expressionism was taken up by directors of American thrillers and psychological dramas, creating that distinctive film noir look.
American film comedy had its heyday in the 1920s and '30s, but it remains an important genre and has given American cinema some of its enduring classics.
