Scènes de ménage (1954) Directed by André Berthomieu
Comedy
Film Synopsis
France, 1910. A genteel tea room would seem to be the ideal venue for
three old friends to meet up and exchange amusing stories about their ridiculous
husbands. Aglaé relates with some pride how she succeeded in
taming her jealous spouse. Valentine had a greater challenge when her
husband, a writer of romantic fiction, objected to her extravagant spending
habits, claiming it stopped him from working. Ernestine still revels
in the occasion when she cheated on her bothersome husband, Boulingrin.
The arrival of the Desvillettes, freeloaders of the worst possible kind,
causes these wives and their husbands to settle their differences in their
efforts to put up a united front against a common enemy...

The best of Indian cinema
Forget Bollywood, the best of India's cinema is to be found elsewhere, most notably in the extraordinary work of Satyajit Ray.
In the 1940s, the shadowy, skewed visual style of 1920s German expressionism was taken up by directors of American thrillers and psychological dramas, creating that distinctive film noir look.
