Eric Sange, a successful English novelist, is looking for a house to
buy in a provincial French village. He comes across one house
which, whilst too large for his needs, holds a strange fascination for
him. Here he meets three very different women: Ariane, who
behaves in a provocative manner, Agathe, who acts like a businesswoman,
and Céleste, a strange governess. Eric cannot help
wondering about the relationship between the three women and why they
live together in the house. Is it the house that is for sale, or
a harem?

The brighter side of Franz Kafka
In his letters to his friends and family, Franz Kafka gives us a rich self-portrait that is surprisingly upbeat, nor the angst-ridden soul we might expect.
In the 1920s French cinema was at its most varied and stylish - witness the achievements of Abel Gance, Marcel L'Herbier, Jean Epstein and Jacques Feyder.
From its birth in 1895, cinema has been an essential part of French culture. Now it is one of the most dynamic, versatile and important of the arts in France.
