Richard is a rootless twenty-something American looking for new
experiences in far away places. In Thailand, he flees from the
tourists and takes refuge in an out-of-the-way hotel where he strikes
up an acquaintance with a French couple, Françoise and
Etienne. One evening, a man named Daffy tells Richard about a
secret island with a paradisiacal beach where he once lived among a
community of free spirits. The next day, Richard comes across
Daffy's corpse and a map of the island. Intrigued, he persuades
Françoise and Etienne to accompany him to the mysterious
island...

The brighter side of Franz Kafka
In his letters to his friends and family, Franz Kafka gives us a rich self-portrait that is surprisingly upbeat, nor the angst-ridden soul we might expect.
American film comedy had its heyday in the 1920s and '30s, but it remains an important genre and has given American cinema some of its enduring classics.
From Jean Renoir to François Truffaut, French cinema has no shortage of truly great filmmakers, each bringing a unique approach to the art of filmmaking.
