Worn out and facing bankruptcy, Jean-Jacques, a farmer in the south of France,
attempts suicide. When he learns that his father has been hospitalised,
Jean-Jacques's son Philippe attempts to take over the running of his farm,
but soon finds that the task is beyond his capabilities. His brother
is too busy managing his restaurant to lend his support, so in the end Pierre
has no recourse but to go into partnership with José, a drugs dealer.
Together, they create a huge trafficking network, with the merchandise stored
in Jean-Jacques's warehouse. Once he is caught up in the drugs business,
Philippe finds it impossible to get out...
From its birth in 1895, cinema has been an essential part of French culture. Now it is one of the most dynamic, versatile and important of the arts in France.
Since the 1920s, Hollywood has dominated the film industry, but that doesn't mean American cinema is all bad - America has produced so many great films that you could never watch them all in one lifetime.
The cinema of Japan is noteworthy for its purity, subtlety and visual impact. The films of Ozu, Mizoguchi and Kurosawa are sublime masterpieces of film poetry.
