Film Synopsis

After the Liberation, a German corporal, Adler, is imprisoned for having killed a member of the French resistance.  Whilst incarcerated at Cherche-Midi prison, he meets a young Frenchman, Jean-François Cordier, who has spent the last four years in prison for refusing to join the army.  Both men are brought before the same military tribunal.  Adler claims that he was acting under orders from his superiors and is acquitted.  Cordier is condemned and must return to prison for an indeterminate period.
