Paul Newman was an American actor and film director. He was born in Shaker Heights, Ohio, USA on 26th January 1925 and died in Westport, Connecticut, USA on 26th September 2008, aged 83.

His best films as an actor include Robert Rossen's The Hustler (1961), Stuart Rosenberg's Cool Hand Luke (1967), George Roy Hill's Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid (1969), The Sting (1973) and John Guillermin's thriller The Towering Inferno (1974), and whose best work as a film director include Rachel, Rachel (1968), Harry and Son (1984) and The Glass Menagerie (1987).
