How to lose weight fast and become healthier than ever

Losing weight is easier than you think

If you can't be bothered to read this whole article and just want to know how you can lose weight really fast just skip to the end...

For all the power that the big food manufacturers and retailers have over us, you'll be amazed just how easy it is to free yourself from their malign influence and start living a healthier life.

There's nothing difficult about losing weight and eating healthily, and it certainly won't make you worse off financially (you may even save money). But you do have to consciously make the effort to change, and this requires time, thought and commitment.

There are just three things you have to do to stop being overweight and substantially increase the chance that you will live a longer, healthier life. These are:
  • Eat more of the right foods and beverages
  • Avoid all the wrong foods and beverages
  • Take more exercise
Yes, it may sound like Mission Impossible, giving up all those yummy cream cakes and belt-busting hamburgers, but once you get out of the habit of being a human garbage can, eating healthily will become second nature and you'll wonder why you never started sooner.

You'll start feeling the benefit straight away

The good thing is that, whilst it may take several months to completely get rid of all that surplus fat around your girth, you will start to feel the benefits of a healthier lifestyle almost immediately after you have started. You will feel less bloated, more energised within days, and you'll be absolutely amazed by how much younger you will look and feel. Within six months, you'll be a totally changed person. As the layers of fat fall away, so will the years. You'll look fitter, trimmer and younger than you have felt for decades.

Unless you have a medical condition or disability that prevents you from doing so, losing weight is one of the easiest and safest things you can do - providing you go about it in the right way. It requires patience, commitment and a long-term view. Don't expect to lose twenty kilos in a week or become an Olympic athlete in a month.

And don't be discouraged if, in a moment of weakness, the urge to gobble down a bar of chocolate overwhelms you. Try to find healthy alternatives to comfort foods, such as yummy pancakes made from wholewheat flour or bananas instead of plain white flour, garnished with a modest portion of steamed sliced apples. A nice ripe banana is a filling and healthy alternative to a biscuit or slice of cake.

It takes time to adopt a new lifestyle and there will be days when the pressure of work and family make you wonder why you shouldn't just fall back into the same old groove, filling your body with the kind of disgusting junk you should be ashamed of putting into a trash can. But stick with it and the gains are phenomenal. It will feel as if you've been given a second chance at life.

Make it easy for yourself - avoid dieting

The one thing you must not do is to make the transition so painful that you have little chance of sticking to it. Better a gradual change that moves you slowly but surely in the direction of your personal goals than a self-imposed torment that quickly becomes intolerable and turns you into a raving cushion-chewing psychotic.

What you must never do is get into the mindset that you are going on a diet. This implies you are embarking on a grim period of enforced abstinence, during which time you will give up all the good things, suffer untold miseries and start reading Jeffrey Archer novels, all in the hope that at the end of it you will be a better person. 'Going on a diet' never did anyone any good. Even assuming you have enough stamina to get to the end of it, you'll soon be back where you started, piling on the pounds and feeling as miserable as ever.

By now it's pretty well accepted that dieting is a pointless gimmick invented by unscrupulous salespeople and other assorted con merchants to take money off you. You may lose a few kilos by living like a masochistic self-loathing monk for three months, but once the ritual of the diet is over you'll be back to square one and the flab will soon return, with interest.

If you want to lose weight permanently, you can never do this by 'going on a diet'. The only thing that works is a complete change in your way of life, one in which your relationship with food will be changed forever. Any alterations that you make to your daily routine are ones that you must be able to keep up in the long run, and all should be geared towards living healthily, with results being apparent almost from Day One.

How to lose weight ridiculously fast

The trick to losing weight really fast (i.e. achieve a very noticeable reduction in weight and waistline within two to three months) is simply to cut out of your diet altogether all those fat-creating wheat-based foods - which include all breads as well as biscuits, cakes and most breakfast cereals. This is not as painful as it sounds as you just need to switch to healthier foods such as oatmeal porridge (without added sugar) and bananas.

You will also need to give up potatoes (in all forms, including crisps and chips) and eat more green vegetables. If you have a sweet tooth, always use sweeteners instead of sugar in hot drinks (tea and coffee). Another thing that will make a huge difference is to cut down your intake of dairy produces (ideally to zero). If you replace milk with healthier alternatives - such as almond milk or coconut milk - you will be amazed how much thinner and healthier you will look, within a matter of weeks. Over-consumption of dairy milk is not only unhealthy, it also makes you look and feel flabby. .

To summarise, here is the magic recipe to losing weight superduper fast and becoming a much healthier person:

  • Cut refined carbohydrates (sugar, white flour, white rice, pasta) completely out of your diet.
  • Always use wholewheat flour instead of plain flour
  • Eat plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables
  • Avoid starchy vegetables (especially potatoes)
  • Never, ever eat dried fruit
  • Eat oatmeal instead of wheat-based cereals; serve with water instead of milk
  • Avoid all bready products
  • Increase your protein intake by eating more eggs, nuts and lentils
  • Avoid fruit juice althogether
  • Cut out all dairy products - use almond milk or coconut milk instead of dairy milk
  • Take no added sugar in hot drinks or meals
  • If you must fry foods, always use olive oil or coconut oil, not the usual processed muck

In addition, drinking more water will help your metabolism, as will drinking green tea instead of coffee. It goes without saying that you must give up junk food and ready meals, which are chockful of harmful additives as well as the worst kind of carbohydrates. Reducing your meat and dairy consumption will not only improve your health, it will also help to save the planet!

It may sound simple but it works and you will never feel bloated or hungry. The only downside is that you will have to replace your entire wardrobe as your waistline shrinks dramatically - but the expense of this may be more than repaid by a sharp drop in your weekly grocery bill as you cut out all those over-priced processed foods! But the good news is that once you've achieved this apparent miracle you will never want to go back to your old fat-creating diet. You may even be surprised by how much your grocery bill falls as a result of the switch.
