Pierre is a 50-something ironmonger who leads a contented life running the family business in a town in northern France.  One day, whilst walking around the port, he runs into Ajit, a young Indian man in his thirties who has just come to shore on a cargo vessel and is desperately looking for his uncle.  Even though neither speaks the other's language, Pierre and Ajit strike up a friendship and the former offers the other a place to stay in his home until he can find his missing relative.
