In 1972, Nathan Del Amico had a near death experience. He was eight
at the time, and it was whilst he was rushing to fetch help for his drowning
sister that he was struck by a car and sent into a deep coma. Miraculously,
he survived and grew up to become a successful lawyer. Living a comfortable
life in New York, he is now married to Claire and has two children, Tracy
and Paul. Nathan couldn't be happier with the way his life has turned
out, until the terrible day when his beloved son is taken him from him by
the thing that every parent dreads - sudden infant death syndrome.
Nathan is so traumatised by the loss of his little boy that he buries himself
in his work. In doing so, he becomes ever more estranged from his wife,
and in the end she abandons him, taking their daughter with her.
One day, Nathan is visited by a strange doctor, Joseph Kay, who claims to
know when people are about to die from the invisible aura that surrounds
them. This curious individual takes it upon himself to help others
who are close to death to sort out their lives before they depart for the
undiscovered country from which there is no return. Thinking that Kay
is some kind of madman, Nathan refuses to take him seriously. But then
he begins to experience some strange phenomenon that cause him to wonder
whether Dr Kay is what he pretends to be - a man with an unerring ability
to spot those who are closest to death. Fearing that his life is nearing
its end, Nathan hastily sets about trying to patch things up with his wife
and daughter...

Continental Films, quality cinema under the Nazi Occupation
At the time of the Nazi Occupation of France during WWII, the German-run company Continental produced some of the finest films made in France in the 1940s.
American film comedy had its heyday in the 1920s and '30s, but it remains an important genre and has given American cinema some of its enduring classics.
