Film Synopsis

Georges Gauthier is a wealthy Parisian industrialist who is unhappily married to Gabrielle, a cold and authoritarian woman.  The latter is unaware that her husband is pursuing an affair with her twin sister, Françoise.  Meanwhile, Gabrielle's niece Catherine is engaged to Marc Lambert, a young businessman whose work often takes him away from home.  One day, at a garden party hosted by Gabrielle, Catherine meets Laurent Berty, the secretary of a famous painter, and all too soon they discover a mutual attraction.  On his return from England, Marc cannot help noticing a change in Catherine's feelings for him.  As rejection takes him over, he is unsure what to do.  In the end, it is Georges who visits Laurent and asks him to give up the liaison.  On his arrival he is surprised to find Catherine lying beside Laurent's lifeless body.  As Inspector Vaillant takes charge of the investigation he discovers tracks leading to several suspects...
