Drama
Film Synopsis
Amira's parents both died in a fire at the theatre in which they were
performing the play 'Amants étemels'. Twenty years
later, a young stage director, Stéphane-Marie, intends to
re-open the theatre and envisages casting Amira in the role played by
her mother just before she perished. The one obstacle is that the
manuscript of the play appears to be missing - or at least it was until
a strange man suddenly puts in an appearance...
Continental Films, quality cinema under the Nazi Occupation
At the time of the Nazi Occupation of France during WWII, the German-run company Continental produced some of the finest films made in France in the 1940s.
From its birth in 1895, cinema has been an essential part of French culture. Now it is one of the most dynamic, versatile and important of the arts in France.
With so many great films to choose from, it's nigh on impossible to compile a short-list of the best 15 French films of all time - but here's our feeble attempt to do just that.
