La Vie très privée de Monsieur Sim (2015) Directed by Michel Leclerc
Comedy / Drama
aka: The Very Private Life of Mister Sim
Film Synopsis
Monsieur Sim is a man who has lost his zest for living. After losing
his wife and his job, he travels to Italy to see his father, but the latter
cannot even be bothered to share his meals with him. Then he receives
an unexpected proposition: to travel the length and breadth of France to
sell a revolutionary new kind of toothbrush, one that markets itself as a
milestone in oral hygiene. Monsieur Sim takes advantage of his new
profession to revisit his past, including his first love and his daughter...
Franz Kafka's letters to his fiancée Felice Bauer not only reveal a soul in torment; they also give us a harrowing self-portrait of a man appalled by his own existence.
With so many great films to choose from, it's nigh on impossible to compile a short-list of the best 15 French films of all time - but here's our feeble attempt to do just that.
Science-fiction came into its own in B-movies of the 1950s, but it remains a respected and popular genre, bursting into the mainstream in the late 1970s.
