Comedy
aka: The Professional Secrets of Dr. Apfelgluck
Film Synopsis
Dr Apfelglück, an eminent psychiatrist, relates several of the
more serious cases that have arisen in the course of his long and
distinguished career. First there is Martineau, an antiques
dealer who liked to take sanctuary in an inn run by a monstrous
couple. Then there is Martinez, a famous television game-show
host who went berserk when one of his contestants made a fool of
him. As soon as a patient has confided in him, Dr Apfelglück
falls asleep and dreams of a paradise from which you can be excluded by
a simple yes or no...
In the 1940s, the shadowy, skewed visual style of 1920s German expressionism was taken up by directors of American thrillers and psychological dramas, creating that distinctive film noir look.
Science-fiction came into its own in B-movies of the 1950s, but it remains a respected and popular genre, bursting into the mainstream in the late 1970s.
From its birth in 1895, cinema has been an essential part of French culture. Now it is one of the most dynamic, versatile and important of the arts in France.
