Ma cousine de Varsovie (1931) Directed by Carmine Gallone
Comedy
Film Synopsis
Archibald Burel, a banker, has known for some time that his wife
Lucienne has been cheating on him. He probably wouldn't have
minded so much if his wife's lover hadn't been his best friend,
Hubert. Deciding precipitant action is called for if he is to
save his marriage, he persuades his Polish cousin Sarah, in Paris for
her holidays, to seduce Hubert. The plan does not go as
planned. First, Archibald falls in love with Sonia, then Sonia
becomes madly in love with Hubert. The end result of this
outright fiasco is that Lucienne wins back her lover, and Archibald is
left all alone, as his cousin, tired of this muddle, has quit the scene
and gone back to Poland.

The best French Films of the 1920s
In the 1920s French cinema was at its most varied and stylish - witness the achievements of Abel Gance, Marcel L'Herbier, Jean Epstein and Jacques Feyder.
In the 1940s, the shadowy, skewed visual style of 1920s German expressionism was taken up by directors of American thrillers and psychological dramas, creating that distinctive film noir look.
From its birth in 1895, cinema has been an essential part of French culture. Now it is one of the most dynamic, versatile and important of the arts in France.
