Film Synopsis

Bryant Hellis is released from prison after serving a seventeen year sentence for assisting Paul Riquet in the theft of diamonds from the Richardson collection.  On the train that takes him back to Paris, Brynat is followed by Brasier, an informer who hopes to claim a share of the booty.  Bryant manages to elude his pursuers with the help of Lécuyer, whom he later meets up with at his home.  Lécuyer reveals that he shared a prison cell with Riquet and that, before he died, Riquet asked him to ensure that no harm came to Brynat.  The next day, Brynat climbs onto the roof of Notre-Dame Cathedral to recover the stolen jewels, but instead of the precious booty there is only a letter signed 'The Merchant of Pleasure'. It is the name of the antiques shop run by Léger, Riquet's brother...
