In 1871, Roger Laroque is accused of a crime that he has not
committed. To save the reputation of his mistress, Julia de
Noirville, he allows himself to be condemned. He escapes from
prison and passes himself off for dead for 14 years. Then he
returns in the guise of a wealthy American, intent on unmasking the
real murderer...
