In the early 1980s, three sons of very different temperament are summoned
back to the farm where they grew up, in the rural south of Italy, by their
ageing father. The latter is grieving the recent death of his wife,
the sons' mother, and wonders what the future now holds for them all.
The eldest son, Raffaele Giuranna, is a prominent judge in Rome who fears
that he might become the target of an assassin as he takes on a much publicised
terrorist case. Rocco, the middle son, presently lives in Naples and,
a godly and selfless individual, devotes all of his time and energies to
helping juvenile delinquents to become honest citizens.
Nicola, the youngest son, works at a factory in Turin and has two overriding
concerns - a labour dispute that is threatening to get completely out of
hand and his failed marriage. As the tired old farmer and his three
sons mull over their present crises they contemplate what surprises life
has in store for them. These are extremely turbulent times in Italy,
and anything is possible. The country seems to be poised on the brink
of chaos. Is there anything in their shared past that can help these
four disparate individuals face up to the problems of the present...?
Since the 1920s, Hollywood has dominated the film industry, but that doesn't mean American cinema is all bad - America has produced so many great films that you could never watch them all in one lifetime.
