Ernst Lubitsch was a German-American actor, film director, screenwriter and producer. He was born in Berlin, Germany on 29th January 1892 and died in Hollywood, Los Angeles, California, USA on 30th November 1947, aged 55.

His best films as a film director include Die Austernprinzessin (1919), Die Puppe (1919), Anna Boleyn (1920), Kohlhiesels Töchter (1920) and Ninotchka (1939), and whose best work as an actor include Carl Wilhelm's Der Stolz der Firma (1914), Schuhpalast Pinkus (1916), Paul Wegener's Hans Trutz im Schlaraffenland (1917), Meyer aus Berlin (1919) and Sumurun (1920).
