Film Synopsis
Djemila, a 30-something lawyer, has finally managed to get her own
apartment, albeit one that is just a stone's throw from her parents'
home. She does everything she can to conceal her North African
origins, so determined is she to portray herself as the model French
career woman. Her neighbour Emma belongs to a very different
world - she is having a hard time trying to bring up her two children
on her modest income. Even though the two women have nothing in
common, they form a close bond through their love of music...
Franz Kafka's letters to his fiancée Felice Bauer not only reveal a soul in torment; they also give us a harrowing self-portrait of a man appalled by his own existence.
It was American film noir and pulp fiction that kick-started the craze for thrillers in 1950s France and made it one of the most popular and enduring genres.
