Drama
aka: Circle of Deceit
Film Synopsis
Georg Laschen is a German journalist whose relationship with his wife
Greta is becoming increasingly strained. It is without regret
that he sets out for the Lebanon to make a report on the civil war,
assisted by his friend and colleague Hoffmann. In the
war-torn city of Beirut, Laschen encounters a former lover who is
living there with her husband. The horrors of the war soon take
their toll and, having caused the death of an Arab man, Laschen returns
to Germany, unwilling to sell the story he has compiled.

The brighter side of Franz Kafka
In his letters to his friends and family, Franz Kafka gives us a rich self-portrait that is surprisingly upbeat, nor the angst-ridden soul we might expect.
Continental Films, quality cinema under the Nazi Occupation
At the time of the Nazi Occupation of France during WWII, the German-run company Continental produced some of the finest films made in France in the 1940s.
The cinema of Japan is noteworthy for its purity, subtlety and visual impact. The films of Ozu, Mizoguchi and Kurosawa are sublime masterpieces of film poetry.
