Les Quatre Charlots mousquetaires (1974)
Directed by André Hunebelle

Comedy / Adventure
aka: The Four Charlots Musketeers

Film Synopsis

The exciting adventures of Athos, Porthos, Aramis and d'Artagnan, the four famous musketeers of Louis XIII, have been widely reported, but this is of course a work of pure fiction.  The four valets of these supposed swashbuckling heroes have a different story to tell, and if what they say is to be believed it was they, not the illustrious four listed above, who thwarted the dastardly schemes of the Cardinal de Richelieu and his venal sidekick Milady de Winter, thereby saving the honour of the Queen when she foolishly made a gift of some diamonds to her secret lover, the Duke of Buckingham.  The famous musketeers may have played a part in this implausibly far-fetched intrigue, but if they succeeded and lived to tell the tale this is entirely down to their ever-resourceful valets, who deserve the lion's share of the credit for sorting out a right royal cock-up...
