In 1909, the renowned English actor and writer Lewis Lafoly turns his back
on city life and commits himself to a peaceful exile on the Île de
Bourbon (now known as Réunion) in the Indian Ocean. It is here
that the elegant forty-year-old attracts the attention of Rosenn Auroch',
an attractive young teacher. Lafoly's erudition and way with words
make him a magnet that Rosenn cannot resist and within no time these two
ill-matched individuals are caught up in the most passionate of love affairs.
But when Rosenn discovers she is pregnant Lafoly realises that he must take
flight. This is not the sort of complication he had intended to land
himself with when he came to the island. Unfortunately, Rosenn does
not see things from his limited perspective...

Continental Films, quality cinema under the Nazi Occupation
At the time of the Nazi Occupation of France during WWII, the German-run company Continental produced some of the finest films made in France in the 1940s.
In the 1920s French cinema was at its most varied and stylish - witness the achievements of Abel Gance, Marcel L'Herbier, Jean Epstein and Jacques Feyder.
