Un p'tit gars de Ménilmontant (2013) Directed by Alain Minier
Crime / Drama
Film Synopsis
After completing a fifteen year stretch in prison for his part in a violent
armed robbery, Jo returns to his old neighbourhood in Paris to find it altered
beyond recognition. He wants nothing better than to turn over a new
leaf and make a go of his life before the onset of old age, but as he tries
to re-establish his relationship with his former girlfriend and the son he
never knew he had Jo finds he has an uphill task ahead of him. It isn't
just the environs that have changed; the people are also different, altered
by the taxing social realities of the time. There are new gangs on
the street, following their own rules, and new challenges to deal with.
When an old friend turns to him for help, Jo has no choice but to offer him
his support...
A wave of fresh talent in the late 1950s, early 1960s brought about a dramatic renaissance in French cinema, placing the auteur at the core of France's 7th art.
In his letters to his friends and family, Franz Kafka gives us a rich self-portrait that is surprisingly upbeat, nor the angst-ridden soul we might expect.
