Biography: life and films

Abstract picture representing Jean-Hugues Anglade
Jean-Hugues Anglade is a French film actor, film director and screenwriter. He was born in Thouars, France on 29 July 1955. Having proven himself in Patrice Chéreau's L'Homme blessé (1982), Anglade gained international recognition through the films he then went on to make with up-and-coming directors Luc Besson and Jean-Jacques Beineix: Subway (1985) and 37°2 le matin (1986). For his performance in Chéreau's next film, La Reine Margot (1994), Anglade was rewarded with the Best Supporting Actor César. In 1996, he made his directing debut with Tonka, but it was to be the first in a series of professional failures that hampered his career for the next decade. He made a remarkable comeback on French television in 2009 in an instalment of Collection Fred Vargas titled Sous les vents de Neptune.
